Chusquea culeou

Chilean bamboo with gentle arching culms of relatively thick,

sold wood. Culeou tolerates a very wide range of temperatures

and much more sun than other temperate zone clumpers.

Chusquea gigantean 

Hardiness: 5 F            

Maximum Height: 24 feet

Maximum Diameter: 1.5”

A fairly rare open clumper of great size.

Fargesia denudata  

Hardiness:  -15 F

Maximum Height: 12 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.5"

Very hardy. Gracefully arching stems. Leaves do not drop in

the fall, holds form through the winter.

Fargesia dracocephala  

Hardiness: -10 F

Maximum Height: 12 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.5"

Also known as “Fargesia apicirubens”. Fairly dense clumper. 

Suitable for screening.  Attractive, cold hardy bamboo that

is relatively sun tolerant.

Fargesia murieliae

Maximum Diameter: 0.5"

Very cold hardy.  Murielae has an attractive cascading habit

and demands shade to thrive.  Lovely, slow growing, and soft to the touch.

Fargesia nitida ‘Jiuzhaigou’  

Hardiness: -20 F

Maximum Height: 12' feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.5"

Jiuzhaigou  is a new Fargesia with dark red culms that mature to yellow.

Tiny leaves, stunning color, compact, erect habit.

This is perhaps the finest fargesia.

Fargesia nitida 'Fountain Bamboo'

Very erect, hardy small leaved bamboo with a graceful arching habit.

Fargesia robusta  

Hardiness: -4 F

Maximum Height: 16 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.75"

Because it grows taller and fuller, this popular Fargesia is more useful

than most of its fellow clumpers as a privacy screen. It features

dark green leaves and culms marked by persistent sheaths.

Fargesia robusta  ‘Campbell’   

Hardiness: 0 F

Maximum Height: 12-15 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.75”

Striking checkerboard look in the spring through early summer. 

More sun tolerant than other fargesia but best kept out of the

afternoon sun.

Fargesia robusta ‘Green Screen’

Maximum Diameter: 0.75”

A fine candidate for a narrow privacy screen, ‘Green Screen’ is taller

and more robust than Nitida or murielae.

Fargesia robusta ‘Wolong’   

Hardiness: 0 F

Maximum Height: 16 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.75”

Larger leaves than regular Fargesia robusta and also more sun tolerant

than other Fargesia. A good privacy screen or garden specimen;

keep out of hot afternoon sun.

Fargesia rufa   

Hardiness:  -15 F

Maximum Height: 8 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.5"

Also called “Fargesia dracocephala Rufa”. This new clumper is

extremely hardy and vigorous. New culms have red sheaths.

Rufa appears to be hardier in the extremes of both hot and

cold than other Fargesias.

Fargesia scabrida  

Hardiness:  -10 F

Maximum Height:  12 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.5"

A really lovely bamboo with dark green leaves growing on 

orange-blue stems. The habit is fairly erect but more open 

than nitida and jiuzhaigou. ‘Scabrida’ is a splendid ornamental and

it could serve as a low level privacy barrier.

Thamnocalamus crassinodus  

Hardiness: 15 F

New shoots appear in a fabulous pastel blue color.

Small leaves with thin culms.

Thamnocalamus tessellatus   

Hardiness: 5 F                        

Maximum Height: 5' feet

Maximum Diameter: 1"

One of our rare African bamboos, tessellatus grows well in sun

and boasts unusual wind tolerance. It has very thick, densely

packed culms which could serve as a clumpingbamboo screen.

Very attractive blue color. It can show leaf damage in temperatures below 15F.

Yushenia Anceps  

Hardiness: 5 F

Maximum Height: 15 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.75"

This graceful Himalayan plant is maritime Northwest hardy but

will suffer leaf loss below 15F. Technically a clumper, Yushenia

will spread like an open runner in favorable conditions.

A very lovely ornamental.

Yushania anceps 'Pitt White'  

Hardiness: 0 F                        

Maximum Height: 25 feet

Maximum Diameter: 0.5"

Slender leafed, with a graceful weeping habit. Best in afternoon

shade. Slow to spread.
